THIS SCENE told us so much about Holmes. That he not only “sees everything” - he hears and senses everything, too. And unless he can control it and focus, it actually overwhelms him and is painful. (One thing martial arts practice can do is to help you concentrate and focus keenly; I suspect that’s one reason Holmes took up the practice.)
